FAIR ISLES WINTER Block of the Month
For the 3rd year in a row, we are thrilled to partner with Morning Glory Designs to bring you an exclusive block of the month. “Fair Isles Winter” is inspired by Scandinavian textiles and tile designs in a beautiful blue and white theme. This quilt features 12 different block designs with 13 "sashing" blocks between each of the different blocks, giving the quilt a complex appearance in a simple format. It will be available in 14 monthly installments. We're adding a "mystery" element this year as well: see those blank spaces in the quilt design? Each one of those will be filled one month at a time with a unique block to add to the fun! The blocks will be simple piecing or paper-pieced, with optional applique.
Here’s the FREE part: Each month, beginning in January 2017, Morning Glory Designs will release the free pattern for a 12” block. The layout shown here includes the “sashing” block and the January block. You can download the January block here, but be sure and go to Morning Glory Designs and sign up for the newsletter – that way, each new block will show up in your inbox each month, with a link for you to download the free pattern. NOTE: Each free pattern is free for ONE month; after that, you can purchase the block patterns individually from MGD’s website.
Our fabric kits will feature one "sashing" block and one current month’s block fabrics for 12 months. The 13th month will have fabrics for the corner border blocks, and the 14th month will have fabrics for the outside border and binding. The quilt finishes at 88” x 88” so it’s a generous queen size. It will be a combination of white-on-white fabrics and a variety of blue batik fabrics.
And don’t worry! If you don’t get signed up in January, or even February, we’ll start you off with Block #1 when you do sign up, and send you your monthly kits in the order the patterns are released. Just remember the patterns are not included in the monthly kits – if you start late, you may have to pay for the first couple of blocks patterns at Morning Glory Designs.
The cost of the fabrics for the entire quilt are broken out over the 14-month period. For $29/month you’ll receive all the fabrics needed for the top and binding with no additional costs for shipping. We’re sure you’ll love this beautiful, challenging quilt – go HERE to sign up for the fabric kits - remember the patterns are not included in the kits but you can download them monthly at Morning Glory Designs. As always, there’s no registration fee or additional shipping costs for our blocks of the month program.
Sweet Summertime Block of the Month
Dreaming of the lazy, hazy days of summer when Mother Nature insists is still winter? We have something that will put you in a Sweet Summertime frame of mind!
Our version of Sweet Summertime, designed by Swirly Girls Design, features the new Kohuna line of fabric from 3 Wishes fabric company. There’s a little bit of hand embroidery and the soft, pleasing colors of coral, aqua and gray featured in a darling teepee print, leaves, arrows, pyramids and other graphics that put us in mind of those fun days at summer scout camp, learning new skills, learning a bit of Native American history along with local lore, building teepees (and sleeping in them!), gathering leaves, looking for arrowheads ….
This large lap (60” x 72”) can easily be completed in six months. For five months you’ll receive the pattern and fabrics for one embroidery block and three matching coordinating blocks (4 blocks total), along with pre-printed Fabri-Solvy® with that month’s embroidery design - no tracing, no permanent marks on your fabric to worry about … simply stick the printed design onto your background fabric and start stitching! We’ll also include a spool of coral, gray and deep aqua your first month to complete the stitching. The six month kit will be the fabric for borders and binding, along with finishing instructions.
Your cost of $30/month includes all the above plus shipping – no extra charges and no registration fee! We have a limited number of kits for this program, so go HERE to sign up today.
Seminole Sampler Block of the Month
We’re so excited to partner with Morning Glory Designs again in 2016 for this gorgeous “Seminole Sampler” Block of the Month! Our fabric kits will be sent out each month to coincide with Morning Glory Designs’ newsletter (sign up HERE!), which provides the FREE block pattern for that month.
Seminole Patchwork is a traditional technique employed by the Seminole People of Florida to decorate garments and regalia. It dates to the earliest days of the 20th Century when sewing machines were made available to the Seminole, who quickly employed them to make these elaborate pieced bands. Seminole patchwork is unique in that it employs strips of brightly colored solid fabric pieced in strip sets then recut and combined to form new and complex-looking designs which are pieced in rows or bands. These bands form the basis for the highly elaborate skirts, shawls and capes for Seminole women and jackets and shirts for Seminole men. This rich cultural tradition is still carried on today in both clothing and ceremonial wear for the Seminole and in tourist goods offered to the public.
The beauty and simplicity of the construction technique have made this a favorite with quilters, and you will quickly recognize that you have used this technique in other pieced projects you have made. For more information and to sign up for the Block of the Month fabric kits, go HERE. As with all our BOMs, there is no registration fee and shipping is included in your monthly cost.

Bad Girls of the Bible Stained Glass Window Block of the Month
This second block of the month quilt in our three-part series highlights “Bad Girls of the Bible”, and is a follow-up to “Slightly Bad Girls of the Bible.” This program features familiar and not so familiar women in the Bible: Eve, Potiphar’s wife, Lot’s wife, Sapphira, Delilah, Rahab and more. Each block represents the story in which the women appear, and it’s up to you to read the stories if you choose. The pattern itself includes a brief description of the story represented by each block, and the last page of the pattern booklet provides guidelines on setting up a book study in your home or church if you have an interest in doing so.
Our generous-sized lap quilt (54” x 72”) is made of premium batiks with solid black Pimatex on a limestone-brick background and encompasses both traditionally piecing and easy paper-piecing techniques. (If you’re new to paper-piecing this is a great project with which to start – super easy foundations let you see how easy and rewarding this technique can be!) We also include our exclusive tips and tricks for success with each block along with directions for framing each window and enlarging the quilt to the size shown (54" x 72"). Choose from the 5-month program for $28/month (USA), the 11-month program for $15/month (USA), or the full kit (available HERE). As with all our BOMs, shipping is included in the monthly price, and there is no registration fee. First kits will begin shipping in early October.
Life on the Reef Block of the Month
From Barbara Bieraugel Designs, we’re thrilled to offer this follow up to Colorful Tropics: “LIFE ON THE REEF”. Life on the Reef is a 10-month program that results in a large (48” x 52”) wall hanging or small lap quilt. The easy patchwork background gives beautiful movement to this design. Swimming through the patchwork “reef” you’ll notice a sea turtle, Achilles Tang, Yellow Tang, Humuhumunukunukuapua’a (aka Humuhumu or the reef, rectangular, or wedge-tail triggerfish), Moorish Idol and a sea horse or a bottom of sea grass, kelp, elk horn coral and fan coral. The applique can be done with fusible or by hand – it’s your choice. Barbara’s excellent directions and tips make this an easy project to complete (even for those of us who shun the dreaded “A” word).
As with all our BOMs, there is no registration fee and shipping is included in the monthly cost – no hidden charges and no surprises! You pay exactly what you see here: this 10-month program is $21 per month for our USA customers, $27 per month for our Canadian friends (to cover the additional shipping). First kits will begin shipping in mid-October and quantities are limited!
